is it legal to run a car detailing business form your own home? do you need some sort of a permit to do it

Good question, all council wards have different views on this. If you are running a mobile grooming business I believe as long as you are either washing your cars on the lawn or grass area or you have means to contain your run off then you have no worries. I can speck about areas which such as Rotorua and Tauranga you would need to have all your ducks in a row before setting out to run a business from home. In short I would strongly advise communicating with like businesses in your area to see what actions they have taken before investing to find out you have to outlay more capital to make the business work. I do have good contacts as to the right equipment in water capturing if you are interested.
